Teacher Effectiveness Training
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
This course is designed to provide research-based coverage of general teaching methods while emphasizing contemporary topics such as: learning communities, differentiated instruction, and modifications for student differences. The content of this course is designed to promote student understanding, manage lesson delivery, apply motivational techniques for instruction and assessments, and work with colleagues and parents. In addition, this course thoroughly covers: classroom management, discipline, and ways to create a positive learning environment. Finally, this course is correlated to the Common Core Standards, Praxis III Standards, and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
EFFECTIVE TEACHER TRAINING
This course is designed to provide practical training in five critical skills areas that include planning, instruction, behavior management, human relations, and professional growth. Additionally, extensive opportunities will be provided for the learner to focus on instructional feedback, presentation skills, learning expectations, monitoring student interaction, social interaction, time management, non-instructional duties, and evaluation. Finally, this course will provide a seamless correlation of the NC Professional Standards, the Classroom Walk Through, and Responsiveness to Instruction.
DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
This course is designed to examine a method of teaching that requires balancing learning styles with abilities. Differentiation is best achieved through planned grouping of children at comparable educational levels to enhance the learning process. This type of teaching is student-centered and hinges on flexibility. It is all-encompassing of an array of strategies and methods that meet the needs of all students in a given classroom. The learner will understand of the major components that drive instruction in the differentiated classroom which include: planning, grouping, implementation, and assessment.
THE HUMAN SIDE OF EDUCATION
This course is designed to provide a way of approaching continuous, quality education. Focusing on life in schools, this course provides a structure for appreciating educators as people and leadership as an art. Much emphasis is place on human behavior, organizational functioning and managerial styles to build a compassionate level of cooperation between leaders and the individuals they lead. During this course the learner will analyze, conceptualize, and internalize the “heart and soul” of education.
BUILDING CHARACTER
This course is designed to create a school climate that fosters ethical, responsive and responsible, considerate young people by teaching and modeling high-quality character. This course will highlight common core values – Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship, Honesty, Courage, Diligence, and Integrity – that are shared globally. Emphasis is placed on critical and creative thinking. Moral and ethical questions will be posed to foster a commitment to moral and ethical behavior. Upon completion, the learner will: 1) understand that Character Education is a developmental process and 2) be inspired to provide children with extensive opportunities to demonstrate moral and ethical behavior in challenging, reality-based situations.
CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
The course will give learners an understanding of the problem solving process. The four basic steps in the problem solving process will engage the learner in defining the problem, generating alternatives, evaluating and selecting alternatives, and implementing solutions. Skills and techniques that will be covered during this course include: brainstorming, information gathering, identifying resources, and analyzing data. Upon completion, the learner will appreciate the significance of problem solving skills in the workplace.
EARLY CHILDCARE EDUCATION
The course is designed to facilitate providers of early care and educational services by enhancing their knowledge and skills with the latest strategies, techniques, methods, and research to meet the dynamic needs of young children (Birth to Pre-K) and their families. As set forth by the NC Division of Child Development, this course deals with nine topic areas: 1) planning a safe, healthy learning environment, 2) children’s physical and intellectual development 3) children’s social and emotional development, 4) productive relationships with families, 5) program management, 6) professionalism, 7) observing and recording children’s behavior, 8) child growth and development, and 9) inclusion of children with special needs.
