PROGRAM INFORMATION

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 forever changed our country’s response to emergency situations. Accidents, acts of terrorism, and natural disasters are just a few of the many events requiring the comprehensive services of public safety personnel.

Wayne County is geographically situated in an area that is prone to a number of possible emergency situations. Seymour Johnson Air Base is internationally known for its fighter squadrons and would be an accessible target for terrorists seeking to disrupt our military flight operations.

Hurricanes and flooding are no strangers to Wayne County. Hurricane Floyd was one of the many natural disasters to touch our county. Our proximity to Interstate 95 also makes us prone to other accidents and incidents that may involve trains and hazardous materials transports.

At Wayne Community College we hope to build upon our service to the community with continued training through Continuing Education, our highly respected Basic Law Enforcement Training program, and now our Emergency Preparedness Technology program.

The Emergency Preparedness Technology Program at Wayne Community College is a program of study leading to an Associates of Applied Science degree. It is one of just a handful of EPT programs in the North Carolina Community College System. Graduates from our program will have opportunities for further study at the four-year level, or can use their degree to seek employment and promotional opportunities immediately after completing the program.

Employment opportunities exist as the local, state, and federal levels. They include positions with educational institutions, county and state emergency management offices, private insurance companies, law enforcement, fire service, and emergency medical services just to name a few.

Wayne Community College is located in Goldsboro, North Carolina in the coastal plain of the state. Our centralized location in Eastern North Carolina puts us in a position to take advantage of the unique opportunities our area provides.
