Core Requirement 2.1: Degree-Granting Authority
The institution has degree-granting authority from the appropriate government agency or agencies.
Judgment of the Off-Site Review Committee: Non-Compliance
Comments: The committee finds that the North Carolina General Assembly is the agency that grants authority to award degrees but did not find a document from the General Assembly indicating that Wayne Community College has been granted such degree-granting authority.
The on-site committee should review appropriate General Assembly documents, such as the institutional charter to show degree-granting authority.
College Focused Response: To address the off-site committees’ request for the appropriate General Assembly document indicating that Wayne Community College has been granted authority to award degrees, the college provides the following document from the N.C. General Assembly, dated December 7, 1967, granting WCC degree-granting authority.
As a result, the college certifies compliance with this core requirement.
