Comprehensive Standard 3.4.3: Admission Policies

The institution publishes admission policies consistent with its mission.

Judgment of Compliance: The College certifies COMPLIANCE.

Narrative:

WCC student admission and readmission policies are published in the WCC General Catalog, Student Handbook, and the WCC College Procedures Manual. The admissions policy supports the institution's mission to provide all students the opportunities to develop both personal and marketable skills. The admission policies are consistent with the North Carolina Administrative Code open door policy. While immediate placement into some programs, such as allied health and basic law enforcement, can sometimes be competitive due to enrollment capacities, all students are given a chance to meet minimum requirements to enter all programs. In order to initiate admission (Link requires internet connection.), a student follows a four-step process. For students who do not meet requirements for entry-level college courses, WCC offers a series of developmental courses in reading, English, mathematics, and computing based on placement test scores.

One way to evaluate the effectiveness of the college's admissions policy is to look at the end product of the educational experience. Each year, the college surveys employers to determine the level of their satisfaction with WCC's graduates.
