Core Requirement 2.7.1: Program Length

The institution offers one or more degree programs based on at least 60 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the associate level; at least 120 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the baccalaureate level; or at least 30 semester credit hours or the equivalent at the post-baccalaureate, graduate, or professional level. The institution provides a written justification and rationale for program equivalency.

Narrative:

The highest degree offered by Wayne Community College (WCC) is the associate’s degree. The guidelines for awarding the associate’s degree are based on the semester credit hour system. WCC does not offer degrees at the baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, or professional level.

As a member of the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), the college is required to adhere to the NCCCS Curriculum Standards (Link requires internet connection.) for all of its curriculum programs. Curriculum standards for the Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree require a minimum of 64 and a maximum of 76 semester credit hours. The Associate in Art (AA), Associate in Science (AS), and the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degrees require a minimum of 64 and a maximum of 65 semester credit hours.

Wayne Community College offers forty associate’s degree programs that meet the NCCCS standards of a minimum of 64 semester hours. A listing of each degree program, with the required credit hours, is available in the Program of Study Summary. Details of the courses and credit hours required for each associate degree program are available in the print and on-line versions of the Wayne Community College General Catalog.
