Inclement Weather Closings or Delays
When inclement weather threatens, the President of the college or his/her designee will make any necessary decisions to cancel classes, delay classes, or close the college and all its operations. Decisions regarding closings and delays will be made on a day-to-day basis, taking into consideration local conditions as well as weather forecasts.
If the main campus is closed, all off-campus sites are closed with the possible exception of SJAFB and the WCC Child Care Center. Status for SJAFB classes will be determined in conjunction with the Base Education Office.
The decision will be announced using the WayneCC Alert system* (accessed through Okta), college e-mail, college website and social media pages, area radio and television stations. As a last resort, people can call the college’s main phone number (919-735-5151) for a recorded announcement. The absence of an announcement means that the college is operating on a normal schedule.
Every attempt will be made to post the announcement by 6:00 a.m. on the day of the closing or delay.
Often, decisions about evening classes are made independently. In cases every attempt is made to make the announcement by 3:30 p.m.
If classes are delayed, the announcement will state the time the college will open. Faculty and staff should report at least 30 minutes prior to that time.
If classes are cancelled, announcements will, if possible, also include notification about which college employees are expected to report to work. (If travel conditions prevent the employee from reporting to work, the employee should exercise appropriate judgment, notify the supervisor and take annual leave.)
In times of inclement weather, radio and television stations will normally make announcements only about delays or cancellations.
Please do not call the media. Instead, listen to announcements on any of the following stations:
Radio: WFMC-730AM*, WEQR-97.7FM*, WRAL-101.5FM, WAGO 88.7FM*, WELS 102.9 FM, WQDR 94.7 FM, WERO BOB 93.3, WGBR-1150AM*,
WRNS-95.1FM, or Public Radio East (PRE) Stations

*first called and usually quickest response.
A number of the television stations also post closing and delay information on their websites, often before it is put on the air. The status will also be posted on the college’s web site (www. waynecc.edu) and recorded on the college’s voice mail system. Please check the media for status before calling the college.
