Gain the knowledge and skills to qualify for an aircraft mechanic’s certificate with airframe and/or powerplant ratings, putting you on the right track for a rewarding job in the aviation industry. This program has been Federal Aviation Administration Part 147-approved since 1969.
Course work includes aviation mathematics, FAA regulations, basic electricity, aircraft drawings; aircraft structures, systems, and components; aircraft engines, theory, systems, and components; and engine inspections and maintenance.

ECU’s Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Transfer Program
Interested in earning a Bachelor’s? Our Aviation Systems Technology degree qualifies for East Carolina University’s BS in Industrial Technology Transfer Program! Once you receive your Associate in Applied Science degree at WCC, you have the option of transferring your credits to ECU towards a Bachelor’s in Industrial Technology (BSIT). Professional Licensure and Certification Disclosure
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Education’s rules regarding Professional Licensure Programs effective July 1, 2020, disclosure is provided for all states indicating whether this program meets licensure requirements, does not meet licensure requirements, or has not been determined for each state.
Students are required to purchase tools and pay about $1,450 for FAA exams. Costs for the tools are available by calling an Aviation Systems instructor at (919) 739-6806, 6823, or 6824.
Employment: Airport fixed base operators; maintenance facilities; FAA repair stations; aircraft, engine or component manufacturers; corporate aviation maintenance departments; airlines; aircraft service centers; and military and governmental aircraft maintenance facilities.
Salary: Pay ranges from $12.00 per hour to $24.00 per hour for entry-level positions. Some employers hiring our graduates include Gulfstream American, General Electric Jet Engine, ACL, Jet Logistics, Progress Energy, NADEP Cherry Point, N.C. Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, and the N.C. Forest Service.
