Wayne Community College’s Public Safety Division will hold its annual 9/11 Tribute Stair Climb on Wednesday, Sept. 11, on the Magnolia Building exterior stairs and breezeways (facing the interior of the campus at 3000 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro).
Emergency medical and law enforcement students, along with local first responders, will start the climb at 9 a.m. They will run the equivalent of 78 flights to replicate the efforts of firefighters who responded to the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The 78th floor was the highest floor they were able to reach in the center’s south tower before it collapsed.
The public is welcome to attend and encourage the participants as they honor the 403 public safety personnel—343 New York City Fire Department firefighters, 23 New York City Police Department officers, and 37 Port Authority Police Department officers—who died in the line of duty that day.
WCC encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing accommodations or have questions about access, contact the Accessibility Counselor at 919-739-6729.
