The Foundation of Wayne Community College’s Arts and Humanities fall lecture series includes “A World War II Story: Two North Carolina Lawyers and Eight German Saboteurs.”
Tommy Jarrett will give this lecture on Monday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Walnut Building at the College. It is free and open to the public to attend.
Jarrett will share the story of eight German saboteurs who were trained in Germany as a group to target areas on the United States eastern coast in 1942. He will discuss their landing, capture, and trial. Of particular note were two North Carolina lawyers who played roles in the actual 1942 real-life drama. Col. Kenneth C. Royall, US Army, was the lead defense attorney for seven of the eight Germans, and Brigadier General Albert Lyman Cox, US Army, was provost marshal for the District of Columbia and was, in effect, the jailer for all eight.
