The Ongoing Fight for Freedom: Stories of NC Black Veterans

Moffatt Auditorium | August 13, 2024 7:30 pm

Wayne Community College will host a presentation to honor the sacrifices and stories of the state’s Black veterans.

“The Ongoing Fight for Freedom: Stories of NC Black Veterans” is a performance telling the stories of Black North Carolinians who have fought for freedom and inclusive democracy on and off the traditional battlefield throughout the last four centuries. This one-man presentation is written and performed by Dr. Sonny Kelly, founder of Legacy Heirs Productions. A discussion with Kelly will follow the performance.

The event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7:30 p.m. It will take place in Moffatt Auditorium in the Wayne Learning Center (the main building on campus with the flag poles in front) and is free and open to the public to attend.

The play’s development was commissioned and funded by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources’ America 250 NC initiative and produced by the Carolina K–12 program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Carolina Public Humanities. It is supported by the Foundation of WCC and the Friends of Wayne County Public Education.
