Classes in Southern Wayne County Starting in January

High School Equivalency classes are returning to Mount Olive, joining other Wayne Community College offerings in southern Wayne County.

WCC Transitional Programs for College and Career provides the tuition-free classes which prepare students to successfully pass either the GED® or HiSET® test and earn a high school equivalency diploma.

The classes will be held at Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, 105 N. Breazeale Ave., 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 8-May 9, 2019.

To register, students report to the site with picture identification and Social Security card. Students will only be registered the first week of classes and then during the first week of each month.

Adult students attending classes at the church are encouraged, but not required, to attend an orientation session at the college’s campus in Goldsboro. The orientation schedule can be found in the “Workforce Continuing Education Course Schedule” at www.waynecc.edu/course-schedules.

WCC will offer English Language Acquisition (ELA) classes at six locations in southern Wayne in the Spring 2019 semester.

The tuition-free classes for adults who speak English as their second language focus on group conversation, grammar and writing instruction, reading comprehension, civics, and employment skills.

9 a.m.-noon, Monday through Thursday, Jan. 7-May 8;

University of Mount Olive, 634 Henderson St., Mount Olive,
5:30-8:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 7-June 26;

Maria Reina de Las Americas, 636 Whitfield Road, Mount Olive,
English classes: 6-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 8-May 7,
Computer classes: 6-8:30 p.m., Thursdays, Jan. 8-May 7;

Brogden United Methodist Church, 2918 US 117 South, Dudley,
9 a.m.-noon, Wednesdays, Jan. 9-May 8;

Brogden Middle School, 3761 US 117 South Alt., Dudley,
6-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 8-May 30; and

Spring Creek Middle School, 3579 NC 111, Seven Springs,
9-11:30 a.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 7-June 5.

WCC Workforce Continuing Education Services’ Cosmetology Program has a site in Dudley. Hair and nail technology courses are taught at the Circle of Love Academy, 409 Stanley Chapel Church Road. The classes provide the training and contact hours that fulfill North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners licensure requirements.
