Field of Honor Returns to WCC

August 06, 2021

For a second year, the Goldsboro Rotary Club will present the Field of Honor in partnership with Wayne Community College.

Hundreds of United States flags will fly on the front lawn of the college Sept. 9-Nov. 18.  The opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. at the college.

Hundreds of flags will again fly on the college’s front lawn.

Goldsboro Rotarians are bringing the Field of Honor® flag display back to the heart of eastern North Carolina.  The “A Tribute to Service Above Self” formation honors those who by their lives honor the flag.

Flags in the display may be dedicated to show support and honor active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and neighbors in a tangible and visible way.

Identified by special tags, these flags may be sponsored for $40. After the event, the flag with its tag will be provided to  sponsors as a memento of the event.

Proceeds will support charitable programs of Rotary International and the Goldsboro Club.
The Goldsboro Field of Honor® display is a gift to the community made possible by such sponsorships, donations, and the efforts of dedicated volunteers.

There is no charge to visit the display which is open to all.

The field will be open during daylight hours only (dawn to dusk).  There will be some lighting on the flags overnight for protocol reasons but it will not be sufficient for the public to visit the field after the sun has set.

The flags will be set up in a grid pattern with a tag on each flag marking its location in the front field of the college, facing Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.  The location will be indexed and the index will be available at the sponsor sign and onsite through the duration of the event with the closing ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 18.

The second year comes with additional partnerships as the Goldsboro Rotary Club collaborates this event with the NC Freedom Fest and the POW/MIA Ruck March.

Now is the time to purchase a flag in honor or in memory of someone whose life honors or has honored the flag.  The club has a limited number of flags left, so individuals are encouraged to place flag orders quickly.

Flags can be purchased online or with a printed flag order form.
