Wayne Community College is in a position to offer training for food and hospitality workers and it wants to make sure it provides what local employers need, said Craig Foucht, the college’s executive director of business and industry.
Restaurants and other eating establishments as a class employ the most people in the county, an average of 3,487 people, according to a 2016 N.C. Department of Commerce report, he said.
“We have heard from Wayne County employers that it has been hard to find good help in the food services industry,” said Foucht. “This is not just a local concern but a national concern, according to the National Restaurant Association.”
