Linksmen Take Tourney Top Spots

While the students are the ultimate winners of the Foundation of Wayne Community College’s Scholarship Invitational, a few players took home bragging rights from this year’s tournament held June 14 at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

The team with the best net score, at 55, was the Albertson team of Woody Albertson, Tommy Lane, Gene Smith, and Scott McConnaughey. Second place with 56 went to Wooten Development’s team of Dillon Wooten, Dave Bargoil, Joe McLamb, and Rex Whitfield. The Brady Trane team of Ed Farris, Larry Haley, Marty Bare, and Mark Yeatts placed third with 57 after a scorecard playoff to break a three-way tie with teams sponsored by Herman Porter and Jackson and Sons.

Coming in first with a gross score of 53 was a team of individuals consisting of Justin McLamb, Lionel Sutton, Mark Lesnau, and Al Takemoto. Second belonged to a team sponsored by Bill Lamm – Lamm, Joe Pritchard, Bill Charlton, and Bill Canipe – which scored 55. Third went to Piedmont Natural Gas’ team of David Bowden, Travis Buckley, Chuck Frazer, and Ian Buschman with a score of 56.

The longest drive challenge was won by Jay Pritchard and linksmen hitting the ball closest to the pin were Rex Whitfield and Julie Daniels.

The super ball tournament provides scholarship funds for students at Wayne Community College. The 26th annual event will be held June 2018.

The Foundation of Wayne Community College is a non-profit organization that works to broaden the base of community support for educational opportunities at the college. In addition to providing scholarships, it funds innovative campus projects and employee recognition, and offers cultural programs for the community.
