The public is invited to a meeting about the On-the-Job Training program available through NCWorks Career Centers.
OJT is a federal program funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) through which employers hire and train workers and get reimbursed for a portion of their efforts.
“This is for anyone interested in learning about the On-the-Job Training –‘OJT’ – program, including potential participants and potential employers,” said Andrea Tyson, a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act business services representative for the college. “I encourage them to just come and find out what it is about.”
Students can enroll in WIOA to have access to the services of that program, including support for education, and through OJT, they can be situated into a paid work environment that provides hands-on experience and specialized training, Tyson explained.
The information session will be held Jan. 22 in Room 101 of the Walnut Building on the Wayne Community College campus on Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro. The event starts at 2 p.m. and is expected to last less than an hour.
The session will explain what is provided and how to get started. Also included will be information about the local labor market, trending occupations, career needs, and eligibility for WIOA-related programs.
