Wayne Community College’s Pharmacy Technology program delivered hygiene kits to the Community Soup Kitchen in time for holiday distribution.
The “Pharm Tech” class of 2022 collected soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, lotion, deodorant, brushes and combs and other contents then assembled them into 45 kits.
The college’s painting class also contributed eight “blessing bags” that included hygiene items and extras like socks, menstrual products, and candy. WCC art students conduct “Art of Giving” philanthropic projects each semester.
This is the pharmacy students’ second community service project this semester. Earlier in the fall they assisted with two COVID-19 clinics at the college. They plan to participate in Safe Kids Wayne County’s Operation Medicine Drop in the spring.
“My students banded together, and with the help of friends and family that made donations, provided hygiene kits for our Community Soup Kitchen,” said Dr. Marcie J Quinn, WCC Pharmacy Technology Program director.
“Having a heart for the less fortunate will help them be well-rounded technicians. It is part of their Code of Ethics that they must follow when they are in their workplaces,” Quinn said.
WCC’s Pharmacy Technology program is a limited-admission, two-semester program that leads to a diploma. Graduates can choose to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam to earn the title of “certified pharmacy technician.”
