Student Receives Aviation Scholarship

November 01, 2018

A Wayne Community College student is the recipient of an aviation scholarship.

Charles J. Fishel, an Aviation Systems Technology student from Hope Mills, has been awarded a William M. Fanning Maintenance Scholarship by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) through its NBAA Charities division.

The Fanning Scholarship is named in honor of retired NBAA staff member William M. Fanning, who was active in maintenance issues during his nearly 20-year tenure at the association. It recognizes individuals who are studying to enter the field of business aviation maintenance and provides $2,500 for educational expenses.

NBAA Charities offers monetary and training scholarships for students and aviation professionals. The scholarships, which total nearly $100,000 annually, are administered by NBAA standing committees and are made possible by the financial support of NBAA member donors.

Founded in 1947 and based in Washington, DC, the National Business Aviation Association is the leading organization for companies that rely on general aviation aircraft to help make their businesses more efficient, productive and successful. The association represents more than 11,000 companies and provides more than 100 products and services to the business aviation community, including the NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition, the world’s largest civil aviation trade show.
