Wayne County Reentry Event to Feature Performers, Panel Discussion

October 31, 2024

Several organizations, including the Wayne County Reentry Council, will come together to host a reentry event featuring performances of stories from the Hidden Voices’ project ReVisioning Rural Reentry.

“Reentry Reimagined” will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 3–5 p.m. at the Goldsboro Event Center.

The stories, which highlight critical perspectives from rural communities across the state, will be followed by a panel discussion between individuals from Wayne County who have been impacted by the criminal legal system.

The panel will share their challenges and successes to inspire the community to seek solutions for smoother reentry and a safer, more inclusive Wayne County. The discussion will be moderated by OurJourney Executive Director Brian Scott.

“Over 95% of the men and women incarcerated in North Carolina will return to our communities at some point,” said Scott, who was released in 2021 after 20 years of incarceration. “Removing obstacles to their successful reintegration back into freedom makes our communities stronger, safer and more complete.”

The event is free and open to the public to attend. Registration is recommended and can be completed through the online form.

“Reentry Reimagined” will be cohosted by the Wayne County Reentry Council, Hidden Voices, Southern Coalition for Social Justice, the Wilson Center for Science and Justice at Duke Law, and OurJourney.

The Wayne County Reentry Council assists incarcerated individuals in the community with reentry into society by identifying and assisting with needed resources to make this transition as successful as possible. Wayne Community College serves as the intermediary agency for the Wayne County Reentry Council.
