Five Wayne Community College employees were selected to present at a state educational conference.
They discussed two of WCC’s successful programs and a teaching tactic during the North Carolina Community College System Conference, which was held Oct. 9-11 in Raleigh.
Instructor Connor Beveridge spoke about WCC’s progress in building its Artificial Intelligence program and the potential for other institutions in the 58-college system to develop their own certificates or programs.
“Wayne Community College Is Creating Student Success: Where Credentials Are Attained and Workforce Is Connected” was the title of the presentation by Director of Apprenticeships Kristie Sauls, Applied Technologies Division Dean Ernie White, and Brian Burgess of Carolina Training Associates. The trio provided an overview of “Industry 4.0,” how it relates to education, and how the same principles can be applied to industrial apprenticeships.
English Instructor Jeanine Callaway and Director of Career Development Elvira Johnson provided two roundtable discussions of how, after Johnson introduces LinkedIn, Callaway gives her “Writing and Research in the Disciplines” classes writing assignments related to the social media platform.
“I introduce my students to the expectations for their continued college writing experiences and beyond into the professional world,” Callaway said.
The conference is held biennially for North Carolina’s community college faculty, staff, partners, and other interested parties to discuss issues and exchange ideas.
