WCC to Send “Warmth for the West” to Blue Ridge Community College

January 02, 2025

Wayne Community College is collecting items for Blue Ridge Community College to continue aiding in relief from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

Through its “Warmth for the West” campaign, WCC is accepting new cold-weather items to be sent to those in Western North Carolina who are still recovering from the aftermath of the storm.

Items that can be donated are coats, socks, blankets, gloves, thermal underwear, hats, and hand warmers.

Donations will be accepted until Thursday, Jan. 30, and can be dropped off in the Student Lounge in the Wayne Learning Center (the main building on WCC’s campus with the flag poles in front).

“In times of hardship, we stand united. Our Warmth for the West campaign is a call to action for all of us to support the ongoing needs of one of our sister community colleges in the western part of North Carolina,” said WCC President Patty Pfeiffer. “All Warmth for the West donations will be taken to Blue Ridge Community College to support their student body and the community.”

Monetary donations can also be made online through WCC’s website.

Hurricane Helene inflicted widespread catastrophic destruction on Western NC in September. Blue Ridge Community College, located in Flat Rock, NC, was closed for over two weeks after the storm.

Schools within the North Carolina Community College System have “adopted” colleges in Western NC to help ensure adequate resources are sent to each area.
