The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has found that Wayne Community College remains in compliance with its accreditation standards.
SACSCOC notified the college last week that its “Fifth-Year Interim Report” has been accepted.
The Fifth-Year Interim Report is required as part of the accrediting agency’s reaffirmation cycle. It allows SACSCOC to ensure that institutions are in compliance with selected standards of the organization’s Principles of Accreditation between their full decennial reaffirmation reviews. The report also addresses the impact of the institution’s most recent Quality Enhancement Plan, a strategy for improving specific student learning outcomes or successes that is required for reaffirmation.
WCC was first accredited in January 1970 and was last reaffirmed in 2016. Its next reaccreditation will be in 2026. It is accredited to award associate degrees.
“I am pleased with the acceptance of our SACSCOC Fifth-Year Interim Report. Meeting all required SACSCOC standards in this report validates for our students and community partners our commitment to high-quality academic programs and services,” said WCC President Patty Pfeiffer.
“The acceptance of our Fifth-Year Report would not have happened without the dedication of our staff and faculty working daily to provide quality educational opportunities for our students. I want to thank them for their dedication to student success” Pfeiffer said.
About SACS
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the regional commission responsible for accrediting degree‐granting institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and some institutions in Latin America and other international sites approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees.
To gain or maintain accreditation, an institution must comply with SACSCOC policies, procedures, and with all standards contained in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement in the professional judgment of peer reviewers. SACSCOC’s institutional accreditation includes all degree levels regardless of location or mode of instruction.
Regional accreditation agencies are recognized by the United States Department of Education to accredit degree-granting colleges and universities. Regional accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole and evaluates multiple aspects of an institution, including its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances, and resources.
The list of SACSCOC accredited institutions can be searched on the SACSCOC website.
