Emergency Medical Science

The Emergency Medical Science program at WCC is a limited-admission bridging option allowing certified, non-degreed EMTs and paramedics to earn an Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Science by completing course requirements outside the paramedic subject areas. Coursework includes Biology, Mathematics, English, Humanities, Social Sciences, and EMS Management.

Students must have EMT and paramedic certification with either the state of North Carolina or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). These certifications give students 47 of the required 70 credit hours for the degree.

If you are currently not certified, all the training and courses you need to obtain these certifications can be found in the EMS Program in WCC’s Workforce Continuing Education division.

Contact the EMS Program Coordinator to learn more about the prerequisites for admission requirements.
