Funeral Service Education

In Partnership with FTCC image.The Funeral Service Education program provides you with the opportunity to become proficient in basic funeral service skills. In addition to the general education courses offered, technical courses such as human anatomy, embalming theory and practice, embalming chemistry, restorative arts, funeral law, and funeral home operations are taught.

Graduates, upon passing the state or national exam and completing an internship in a funeral home, will be qualified for employment as embalmers and/or funeral directors.

This program is offered at WCC through a partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College. You will complete your first two semesters at Wayne Community College, then finish your degree through Fayetteville Technical Community College.

All classes in this program are available on-campus or completely online!

Objectives and Benefits:

  1. To enlarge the background and knowledge of students about the funeral service profession.
  2. To educate students in every phase of funeral service to help enable them to develop the proficiency necessary for the profession, as defined in the above.
  3. To educate students concerning the responsibilities of the funeral service profession to the community at large.
  4. To emphasize high standards of ethical conduct.
  5. To provide a curriculum at the postsecondary level of instruction.
  6. To encourage student and faculty research in the field of funeral service.
